Grand Canyon Youth Organization

The Grand Canyon Youth Organization was founded by three professional river guides who wanted to meet the need for positive outdoor activities in the Grand Canyon area. In 1998, the guides organized their first trip. Due to its great success, they recruited a board of directors and became an official non-profit organization. Headquartered in Flagstaff, Arizona, Grand Canyon Youth is committed to providing once-in-a-lifetime experiences to youth between the age of eleven and nineteen. GCYO aims to inspire creativity and educate youth about the history, geography and culture of the Grand Canyon.

Grand Canyon Youth Organization is the only program for young adults with access to the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Many participants from urban areas have never experienced outdoor athletic opportunities in a natural setting, and the team building skills and personal growth that they take away from the experience will be remembered for years to come. Before participants set off on their adventure, they are required to pay for part of the program themselves by doing community service or by preparing an educational project. The price of each outdoor excursion includes:

  • Pre-trip support
  • Professional Guides
  • Transportation from Flagstaff
  • Food
  • River Equipment
  • Sleeping Supplies

The programs offered by Grand Canyon Youth Organization are affordable- not only do students work to offset the total cost of the trip, there are also financial aid programs available for qualifying students.
GCYO is made possible by contributions from individuals, businesses and organizations. Continued public support for these important programs creates life-changing experiences and educational opportunities for students who might not otherwise get to experience the beauty of the Grand Canyon.
