Thunderbird Lodge

If it’s amenities you need and history isn’t your bag, Thunderbird may be the place for you. As it’s geared for families, double rooms are available here. Not true everywhere. It has all the proximity to the trailheads and views with the comfort of a modern facility. Each room is furnished with a television and private bath. You are not guaranteed a view; so better ask if that’s on your list of must haves. There is no lobby or restaurant. Both are found next door at historic Bright Angel Lodge, but you may appreciate the lack of crowds on your doorstep.

What's Good and What Could be Improved.
With bigger rooms and more amenities than some of the historic lodges, opting for Thunderbird still gives proximity and views along with a little modern comfort. Parking woes and bathroom cleanliness are sighted as occasional problems but there is a shuttle provided should you need to park elsewhere and once alerted, the staff should rectify any cleaning issues a busy season can sometimes create.

Who is it Good for?
Families do well at Thunderbird as double rooms are the standard. Views cannot be had from every room, so book wisely if that’s on your list of must haves.

Amenities: All rooms are equipped with two queen beds or one king bed, in-room coffee, refrigerator, safe, television, telephone, and full bath.
