Lodging at the South Rim is fairly basic. While it’s possible to book slightly more elaborate rooms than the rustic, un-air-conditioned cabins also available, none of the lodging can be considered five-star. Accommodations at the rims house thousands and thousands of people each season and lean more toward providing necessities rather than the extravagances. But many come for an authentic experience and you can have anything from a cabin to a suite with a canyon view.

Expect clean rooms, televisions and telephones all around, and helpful staff at the South Rim. The reason to stay is the proximity to the canyon and the amazing views right outside your door. It’s not possible to stay closer to all the action and drama. Accommodations here cost more than staying outside the park but are not wallet busters either. Expect to pay somewhere in the range of $80-$400 a night depending on what you book and how close to the rim you want to be. Food is very basic with only El Tovar offing the closest thing to restaurant style fare. Otherwise, cafeteria style is what you’re in for. But more importantly, from the South Rim, anything is possible. Mule tours leave directly outside Bright Angel Lodge. Trailheads are within feet of your door. Hiking, rafting, air and train tours are all found here, so pick your poison and drink up.
