The North Rim Lodge

Located right at Bright Angel Point, the North Rim Lodge offers the only accommodations include the park at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. This rustic lodge is quite beautiful and cozy. In 1987 it was declared a National Historic Landmark. The Lodge is literally just steps away from the Rim’s edge and provides guests with spectacular views. Mule rides and hiking tours are all available here.

When people travel to the North Rim, time and time again, if it’s not the views they rave about, it’s The Lodge Dining Room. With huge, picture windows of the stunning landscape, you’ll forget about your dessert and drool over the views instead. Menu items include a variety of regional favorites as well as “1930’s themed foods.” It is also noteworthy the Lodge Dining Room commits to using fresh ingredients including all natural meat products and organic vegetables. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served here.

Be sure to check out their “Grand Canyon Cookout Experience” during the summer months where guests are treated to entertainment while dining on a “chuck wagon style dinner.”

Accommodations consist of a few cabin options as well as motel rooms. The Western cabins are the more spacious cabins with two queen size beds, a full bath and can easily sleep four comfortably. The real selling point to booking a Western cabin is the front porch.

Pioneer cabins were recently remodeled and offer two bedrooms that are separated by a bathroom. One of the bedrooms is outfitted with a queen size bed, while the other has a bunk bed and double pull out futon. The staff will tell you the Pioneer cabins will easily sleep six people, but you can judge just how cramped your family might be.

The Frontier cabins and motel rooms only allow for three people, so be aware of that when you are booking.

The Scoop

Stunning views, proximity to the Canyon and a clean, serviceable room is what you will find at the North Rim Lodge. Pictures of the historic façade can be a bit deceiving to folks who haven’t done their research. The rooms are fairly small and offer very basic amenities but again, it’s the views and adventures you experience outside the room you are paying for here.

Who is it good for?

Because of the variety of rooming options (cabins to motel rooms), just about anyone would do well staying here. The split floor plans and en suit bathrooms make traveling as a family or in groups even easier.
