Bright Angel Lodge

Those who desire proximity and authenticity may find what they’re looking for at Bright Angel Lodge. Designed by Mary Coulter, the architect of most historic Grand Canyon buildings it has the rustic, western feel that defines her style. Guests have a choice between rooms and cabins. While the lodge rooms cannot guarantee a view, the cabins boast stunners. Both are quite small and usually have only one bed. Lodge rooms have no television and may or may not have a private toilet. All cabins have both but you do pay a price for it. Basic food can be found at the cafeteria on site but a walk to El Tovar is necessary for anything beyond the basics. But the mule tours to Phantom Ranch leave just outside your door and Bright Angel trail is at your fingertips.

What's Good and What Could be Improved.
While rooms are small and amenities are scarce, it’s the canyon most people come for and the proximity and views from Bright Angel Lodge can’t be beat. Booking can be difficult so be sure to do so in advance and if a private toilet is a necessity for you, better ask for it or you may not get one.

Who is it Good for?
The rooms and cabins at Bright Angel Lodge are on the small side and most have only one bed, making it difficult for families wanting to bunk together to do so in just one room. This lodge is better suited to adults traveling in pairs or groups.

Amenities: Amenities vary depending on the room you book. Some have canyon views, some don’t. Some have en suite bathrooms, some don’t. All do have telephone and television although that may not be the bonus you’d choose with the Grand Canyon at your fingertips.
